Activities for Families & Children
ilanda Guest House is child & family friendly and a good alternative to a resort holiday. We’d be delighted to host you during your family holiday or weekend break.
The large property and garden is a haven for children with two swimming pools, jungle gym, trampoline and swings will keep your children entertained while you relax.
In addition we have a few games which can be borrowed for free. We currently have soccer ball & cones, badminton rackets, cornhole set, jenga & playing cards. We'll be adding more soon.

Family activities as day trips from ilanda Guest House
Most visitors include the Panorama Route and Kruger National Park in their itineraries. You’ll find plenty of diverse family friendly activities to do as day trips from ilanda Guest House.
Panorama Route
The Panorama Route offers plenty of activities suitable for families with children. Graskop is just a short drive from ilanda Guest House and is easily visited as a day trip.
Graskop Gorge Lift, Big Swing and Zip Line
The Graskop Gorge Lift which has a big swing (from 12 years and up, R550) and zip line (from 7 years and up, R250).
The Gorge Lift itself is not to be missed and offers a unique opportunity to walk in Afromontane Indigenous forest. An entrance fee of R50 is payable to enter the complex. Find all the latest price and book online.
Pilgrim’s Rest
Pilgrim’s Rest is worth a visit for families if you are in the area especially the Information Centre, the museum and old shops frozen in time. You can find a map of the town
Gold Panning: Try your luck panning for gold like in the times of the gold rush at the Diggings in Pilgrim's Rest.
Tickets can be purchased at the Pilgrim’s Rest Information Centre. Tours at 09:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 15:00. Rates are R165 per adult and R75 per child. 013 764 3399.
Long Tom Toboggan
The 2km long Long Tom Toboggan at Misty Mountain Resort (on the Long Tom Pass road) will thrill children and adults alike.
Sudwala Caves
The Sudwala Caves are impressive limestone caves about 45 minutes from White River, where you join a guided tour into the cave system (all ages, free for children under 4, R60 for children, R100 adults and R80 pensioners).
Those looking for adventure will enjoy the Sudwala Caves Zipline (from 5 years old, R280). A more extensive 4 hours tour of the Sudwala Caves is available with The Crystal Tour (R550, advance bookings essential).
There is also a Butterfly Dome Garden (free), Dinosaur Park (Adults R70, Children R40
Under 5 Free) and Fish Spa which the ladies and little ones will enjoy.
Elephant interaction at Elephant Whispers (Hazyview)
There is the opportunity to interact with rescued African Elephants at Elephant Whispers. It's impressive and memorable for children and adults.
Perry’s Bridge Trading Post (Hazyview)
Perry's Bridge Trading Post in Hazyview has interesting shops & restaurants and a couple interesting activities for children.
Skyway Trails offers a short Tree Top Challenge in the garden of Perry’s Bridge Trading Post (30 min, R200) and Mpumalanga’s longest aerial cable trail in a forested valley nearby (2.5 hours, R595). Check prices and book online.
Perry’s Bridge Reptile Park (Hazyview)
Perry’s Bridge Reptile Park offers a unique opportunity to see reptiles, Among it’s star indigenous residents are Black Mamba, Green Mamba, Gaboon Viper and Nile Crocodile. Several exotic species are also on display. It is worthwhile to time your visit with their daily shows:

Casterbridge Lifestyle centre
Casterbridge Lifestyle centre can be fun for kids, notably the Old Car Museum
Sakkie’s Farmyard which has mini-golf, animal petting and other activities for kids.
On the other side of the main road is Bagdad centre with our favourite local restaurant, Picasso’s Mexican Taqueria.

The Plantsman
The Plantsman is a lovely place for breakfast, lunch or drinks. The farm stall offers many local delicacies and plants to buy. The yard or snack and has a farm stall, growing house and a few farm animals.

Mafunyane Waterpark
Mafunyane Waterpark in the Nelspruit Riverside Mall is a fun water slides park, for an afternoon outing. A trip to Mafunyane can be combined with a walk in the Lowveld National Botanical garden to view the spectacular waterfalls of the Crocodile river.
Mafunyane Waterpark is a 17 minutes drive from ilanda Guest House.
Lowveld National Botanical Garden
The 165 hectares Lowveld Botanical Garden is a perfect spot for a picnic or just to discover the botanical wonders of South Africa’s flora (Adult R50, Student R27, Child: R15, Pensioner are free entry on Tuesdays). The children’s play area is particularly nice.
We especially like Tindlovu at the Gardens restaurant at the entrance of the gardens. Their burgers and vegetarian burgers are delicious.
The Lowveld National Botanical Garden is a 19 minutes drive from ilanda Guest House.
Ice Rink at ilanga Mall
Try something new at the ilanga Mall ice rink. Skates can be hired on site.
